About This Tour
Mount Rinjani 2 Days 1 Night Crater Rim Itinerary: The Best Views Without the Summit
If you want to experience the majesty of Mount Rinjani but prefer to skip the grueling, midnight summit push, the 2 Days 1 Night (2D1N) Senaru Crater Rim Trek is the perfect alternative. This route is famous for offering the most spectacular, sweeping views of the caldera, the brilliant blue Segara Anak Lake, and the smoking baby volcano (Mount Barujari)โall accessed via a beautiful, shaded rainforest trail.
This itinerary is highly recommended for beginner-to-intermediate hikers and photographers looking to capture cinematic sunset and sunrise shots without the extreme physical toll of the peak.

Day-by-Day 2D1N Senaru Crater Rim Itinerary
Day 1: Through the Rainforest to the Crater Rim
Your journey begins on the northern side of the mountain, where the trail is shielded from the sun by a thick canopy of tropical jungle.
- Morning (7:30 AM): After an early breakfast, register at the Rinjani Trekking Center in Senaru Village. The first few hours of the trek take you through lush, dense rainforest. The incline is steady and manageable, and the shade keeps the temperature comfortable.
- Lunch (11:30 AM - 12:30 PM): Arrive at Pos 2 (Montong Satas, 1,500m) or Pos Extra. Take a well-deserved break while your porters serve a hot, freshly cooked lunch.
- Afternoon (1:30 PM): The trail becomes steeper as you leave the thick jungle behind and enter the rocky, pine-dotted savanna. The final push from Pos 3 (Mondokan Lokak, 2,000m) to the campsite is the most challenging section of the day.
- Evening (5:00 PM): Arrive at the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m). Your tents will be set up facing the crater. Relax and watch a breathtaking sunset over the lake, the active cone of Mount Barujari, and the distant silhouette of Mount Agung in Bali. Enjoy a warm dinner and stargaze before heading to sleep.
Day 2: Sunrise Over the Lake and Jungle Descent
Day 2 rewards you with a stunning sunrise before a steady, shaded descent back to civilization.
- Morning (6:00 AM): Wake up early, step out of your tent, and enjoy hot coffee and breakfast right on the edge of the crater. Watch the sunrise illuminate the Rinjani Summit to your left and cast golden light across the lake below.
- Mid-Morning (8:00 AM): After packing up camp, begin the descent back down the exact same trail you climbed yesterday. Navigating down the rocky upper sections requires care, but the pace is generally much faster than the ascent.
- Lunch (12:00 PM): Stop around Pos 2 for a final mountain lunch prepared by your crew.
- Afternoon (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Arrive back at the Rinjani Trekking Center in Senaru Village. From here, you can take a quick side trip to the nearby Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls, or hop right into your transport to head to your next destination in Lombok.
Why Choose the 2D1N Senaru Crater Rim Route?
